Finishing to test the next headset with the proud inscription “Sound around two speakers”, we could not stand it and decided that everything was enough to torment our ears with this “virtualization”, it's time to order a normal set of 5.1 and enjoy the real "Surrand". A couple of calls – and after a few days we already unpacked only the edifier S550 ENCORE that appeared on sale.
Edifier S550 Encore
The acoustics turned out to be interesting. Start at least with the fact that the kit is assembled from two well -known models. The satellites arrived from the Edifier S550 set, and the subwoofer (just like that, with the title letter) came from the legendary 2.1-sister S730 and became the main attraction of the S550 ENCORE.
This MDF gaming is impressive even before you connect it-we have not yet seen such a large subwarf in a computer segment. Just imagine, dimensions are 36.7×39.7×48.9 cm – this is approximately like eight PlayStation 4 put on each other.
This, to put it mildly, a decent volume was needed so that within itself it comfortably feels a 10-inch (25.4 centimeters) speaker. It is a lot or little? Let's just say that the closest competitors in the form of Microlab H-600 and Logitech Z906 can boast of only 8-inch emitters, and the size proposed by Edifier is already from the field of home theater and automobile acoustic systems.
A little theory
Why the hell is such a monster? It's all about physics. The smaller the emitter, the more it has to be rocking to obtain a sound wave. It would seem that nothing terrible, but the long stroke of the suspension leads to the fact that at some point the structure ceases to keep up with music. That is, when the time comes to play another note, the low -frequency is still engaged in the previous. And this is the fall of a detail, and the appearance of porridge with a characteristic rumble. With big speakers, everything is easier. To swing the air, they are quite weak, rapidly fading movement, which is much easier to control.
Also, the pluses of large dimensions are the opportunity to do without lowering the frequency of the phase intercaral. For example, in the S550 Encore he was replaced by two passive emitters, which allowed to achieve a softer and deeper bass. Of course, with them it was not possible to draw in the characteristics of impressive 20 – 20,000 Hz and had to limit ourselves to 42 Hz, but (let's reveal a little secret now) this is not important. Firstly, the lowest bar for living instruments is 50 Hz, and everything else, in fact, is artificial sounds. Secondly, the latter in the home system is generally pure bragging, they are available only to lovers of automotive acoustics, where the Saba is already corny changes the pressure inside the machine and due to this can reproduce ultrasound.

Of course, you can’t build a good system from one, even a very high -quality subwoofer – other elements must correspond to a given level. And Edifier did not fail with them. Five columns are reduced for medium and high frequencies, all from the same MDF. The front and rear channels are the same and are small cubes 20 cm high and 16 cm deep. Each is equipped with a 3.5-inch Foreign Ministry and a 25 mm twitter closed with a removable dustproof grid of black. According to the same scheme, the central channel was made, however, it has not one, but two medium -frequency, located on the sides of the "squeak".
To scatter the issued set around the room is easy. The speakers are relatively compact and calmly placed on the sides of the monitor or TV, plus each satellite has eyes for attaching to the wall, which will facilitate the task when installing the rear sources. But with switching acoustics you will have to tinker.
As with any 5.1-complex, there are a lot of cables and they must pull them all from the subwoofer. For satellites, it is proposed to use the usual acoustic pair with excellent tight veins, and for connecting the sound source – an analog cable with the end of six “tulips”. Unfortunately, it will not work out with one wire; Despite the fact that in its last models, Edifier has already accustomed us to the presence of digital inputs, for some reason they were not added to the S550 ENCORE (the consoles will have to be connected through the receiver). As easy comfort, there are only two additional contacts under 2.1, to which you can pick up, for example, a player or TV.
Switching between sources is allowed from the remote remote control located on the table on a special stand. The lazy person is equipped with a decent lunch and lubric complex and using one handle allows you to redistribute the volume through the channels, as well as slightly adjust low and high frequencies. Those who are going to put acoustics on the TV are proposed to use an infrared remote control that duplicates the functions of the main block.

Say right away, such a reserve of “managers” Edifier did not do it in vain: they will often have to use them, because the S530 ENCORE sounds more than original. At standard volume, they are enough for the voice and common sounds, but in order to pull out of them, for example, an electric guitar, you have to either add power, which is already fraught with an unpleasant conversation with neighbors, or buy a good sound fee and thoughtfully configure the frequencies for each channel separately.
Of course, someone will say, they say, for acoustics for 19,000 rubles, this is too much, it should be able to do everything at once, but we will not agree with this. S550 ENCORE was clearly created with an sight of games and films, and it copes with them for five plus. Well, as for music, yes, we are used to – Edifier in this matter is traditionally a model for imitation, but in this case no one set such goals for himself, and therefore there is no sense in finding fault.
As for the question, to take it or not. Let's just say that the S550 ENCORE has no competitors in the multimedia or in the Hi-Fi sector. The first in this price category does not climb at all, and the second only starts from it and offers for this money very strange sets. All this does not mean that the S550 Encore is the only correct option. The set is certainly remarkable, but with its own characteristics. So, if you decide to purchase it, be sure to go to the store, personally listen and be prepared to buy a good sound board.
